Laura { just because }

I love it when people want to have photos taken "just because".  No special reason, no holiday, no life changing event...just because you are who you are at this point in your life...and you would like to document it :)  I was super excited when Laura asked me to do a "just because" session!  She has such a great personality and she knows how to work the camera.  Maybe it's all those awesome performers she's around 24/7.  You see, Laura is the owner of Starke Academy of Dance, which I'm certain is home to some of Florida's best dancers!  By the way, my daughter Hailey attends this wonderful school of dance :)  It's a place where friends become family.  Laura is such a giving person and she is definitely full of life.

The Gift of Family

The weekend after Christmas I photographed this amazing family.  I know, I know Christmas is over and it's a New Year but I had to blog about this sweet group of people.  There were four generations represented, which I thought was super cool - and yes, I just said "super cool" :)  Everyone was so cooperative and friendly.  It really was a great shoot.

Pretty in Pink

When my son, Ryan, was a baby I started working at a place where I was able to meet some wonderful people - one of which was my supervisor, Wynette.   It's amazing  how God puts you right where you need to be.  I didn't see it then but I look back now and see why God placed me there.  He surrounded me with lovely ladies that would help me go through what I was about to go through.  He was preparing me for, what he has prepared me for.  (Say that out loud a couple of times and I promise you'll get it).  I gained many great friends through that job and the Camp Blanding sand will always be in my shoes :)

While working with Wynette, I came to know one of her best friends - Jill.  Now, I never actually met Jill, but we might-as-well have been friends to.  You know when you hear so much about someone so special you just kinda feel like they're your friend too.  Jill had her baby girl, Allison,  shortly after I had my Ryan.  Then I had my Hailey and she gave birth to her Michael Blaine.  She lived in Louisiana and I lived in Florida but we had some things that kept us close - our Wynette and our babies :)  Soon after Michael Blaine was born, Jill was diagnosed with breast cancer.  I remember a feeling of helplessness and all of a sudden my problems were not that bad.  I remember putting myself in her shoes and thinking about the kids and I remember Wynette.....I'll stop there because I don't want this to be a sad post but rather a post about love and God's grace.   His grace is sufficient. 

Jill's children are beautiful, funny, and full of life.   I met them for the first time when we got together before Christmas for a photo session.  Their grandmother wanted to surprise their father with some pictures and Wynette just happened to know a photographer :) 
They were so much fun to photograph.  Allison knew how to work the camera and Michael Blaine kept me laughing the whole time.

Something for your Sweetheart...

With Valentine's Day right around the corner, I thought I might share a gift idea and a couple of "special" pics of my good friend, Joyce.  She contacted me way back in November and wanted to have some fun and fabulous photos taken, to give to her husband for Christmas.  He loved his gift :)  The session was lots of fun and Joyce looked absolutely beautiful.

A Reason to Celebrate

WOW!  I can't believe it is already 7 days into the new year.  My mom was right, the older you get - the faster time flies.  There's been lots of celebrating lately with Christmas and the New Year.  I hope that everyone has enjoyed the Holidays and is ready for God's blessings in 2009 :)  Before I start blogging about the future, I would like to share a little more about the happenings during the end of my 2008. 

In December, I photographed a celebration of marriage - 50 years of marriage to be exact.  What a beautiful gift from God.  This was the sweetest couple and their love was obvious.  It was that, "my heart beats fast when I hear his voice" kind of love.  The "I can't help but smile when I say her name" kind of love.  And  "it's been 50 years and I hope for 50 more" kind of love.  What a pleasure it was to be part of this event.

A Christmas Wedding

I must admit, when I hear the word Wedding my mind instantly goes to Summer or Spring.  I'm not sure why, but that's where my mind tends to go.  I have to say that I have fallen in love with Fall and Winter Weddings.  The weather is cool outside.  There's a crispness in air - and I'm all about crisp air :)  The colors are rich and warm.  Winter Weddings now have a special place in my heart.  Recently, I've had the honor of assisting and 2nd shooting for some really great photographers (more about that tomorrow). 
It's amazing how photography really connects people.  I've been able to build new relationships and reconnect with some old ones.  Shannon and I went to high school together.  She contacted me through Facebook - again gotta love those networking sites.  She told me she was starting a photography biz and asked me to 2nd shoot a wedding for her.  I'm all about getting experience and I LOVE shooting weddings so I was thrilled to help.

The Best secret...

A few months ago I received an email from a young lady who wanted to do something special, for her mother, for Christmas.  She arranged for me to photograph her and her two younger siblings.  We met downtown for their session and took pictures in places that we thought their mother would like.  It was hard to keep their photos a secret but Holly really wanted her mother to be completely surprised when she opened her gift.  From what I hear, she was surprised and she loved the pictures.  What a great gift to receive as a mother.  So many times, the mother is the one who makes the appointment, stresses over the outfits, and then drags the kids to the photo shoot.  All she wants is a great picture of her kids but some how the joy can be lost in all the shuffle.  The kids taking it upon themselves to have the photo session was truly a perfect gift.  One that mom will be able to enjoy for years to come.

A Lifetime

I received an email a while back, it was a poem about friends and described the different types of friends we have.  We have some friends for a reason, a season, or a lifetime.  You probably received this poem too :)  It described each type of friend - how some people are in your life briefly - for a specific "reason" and when that need is met they are no longer there but you would always consider them a friend.  Then there are the friends that are around for a "season" - maybe helping you through a difficult time or celebrating a victory with you - and when that season is over, they too are gone.  But what about those that stick - that don't go anywhere or at least not far - those are the "lifetime" friends and I have to say I am blessed with a special one.  Her name is Kim.  We met in 3rd grade.    We have laughed together and cried together.  Our friendship is not perfect.  We both have faults.  But we are "lifers".  I'm convinced we will be friends forever.  We have shared many of life's good times together like eating tubs of butterscotch ice cream, middle school dances, and high school graduation.  She has witnessed the birth of all 3 of my children :) and has been "Aunt Kim" since before they were born.  We have some great memories.  I thank God for her friendship.

Kim had all 3 of her children pre-term - which means I missed out on the whole delivery part.  Which means she owes me 3 labors and deliveries :)

I never knew...

...that my neighborhood was overflowing with cute kids!  Ok, well maybe I did know :)  But I never realized the my cutie neighbors were so photogenic - how wonderful for me!  With all the hustle and bustle of the Holiday Season it's easy to let time slip by.  I'm so glad I was able to schedule a session with these two kiddos before Christmas came and went.  After all, don't' they look fabulous in their Holiday attire?  I think so.

Lots of Love...and Laughter

The weekend after Thanksgiving, I had the opportunity to photograph yet another amazing family.  God has truly blessed me with the best clients.  This big group was so much fun to meet and capture.  Our session was on the day of the big Florida vs. Florida State football game and the guys were such great sports about missing a few plays to take some pictures :)  Thanks for being so patient boys.  This family loved to laugh.  They were playful - which I love - and they were cracking' jokes left and right.  It was a blast to spend the afternoon with them.
